Description

Mexican Dream" is a documentary about several immigrant families from the Mixtex indigenous from Oaxaca, Mexico who go to Austin, Minnesota, to work in slaughterhouses and meatpacking factories for Hormel Foods. Filmed with the immigrants and the U.S. and their relatives back home, "Mexican Dream" is an intimate portrait of the strong sense of community that perseveres amongst them in the U.S., and the profound social effects of poverty and migration on the families in Mexico. This is a film about two very different communities in transition, challenging common misconceptions about low-skilled immigrants and offering new insights to the ongoing debate about immigration and labor, showing "how migration is a complex game between consumers, big business and politicians.
