AMERICA REBUILDS II: RETURN TO GROUND ZERO is a new major one hour PBS documentary scheduled to air in primetime across the US on September 11th to commemorate the fifth anniversary of the 9/11 attack.
Narrated by LAW AND ORDER: SVU star Mariska Hargitay AMERICA REBUILDS II: RETURN TO GROUND ZERO follows the continuing story of the rebuilding of the Trade Center Area. AMERICA REBUILDS II: RETURN TO GROUND ZERO follows the inside story of the engineers, developers, and architects as they work with politicians, residents and victims' families as they began to build a new and larger World Trade Center from the wreckage of Ground Zero.
This powerful film explores the main rebuilding of the Trade Center which has been entangled in political, and economic redtape for the last five years and takes you inside the engineering challenges posed from the first two major rebuilding projects that were completed. That being the rebuilding of the Path train system underneath the World Trade Center site which before the attack serviced almost 100,000 commuters a day and whose station was destroyed and underground tracks flooded.
It also follows the story of the rebuilding of 7 World Trade Center, one of the related building on the Ground Zero site that was not destroyed but was severally damaged and faced not only the rebuilding of the physical building but with the difficult task of persuading tenants to relocate to this place of great tragedy.
The film also touches on the human stories that resulted from this tragedy such as the father of a New York City firefighter whose son's life was lost trying to rescue others during the attack who now conducts educational tours on the site for young people so that they may learn what occurred there.
